Mahatmalamalist Tithing

Mahatmalamalist tithing has three parts:

  • give it all now;
  • keep giving it all as life goes on; and
  • give it all at death.

  • Give it all now means that, upon entering The Mahatmalamalist Church, the new member:

    • gives to the church everything that he then owns, and
    • contractually obligates himself to assign to the church all of his after-acquired property, in consideration of The Salvation Of The Mahatmalama which the church has provided to him.

    Suitable legal forms will be provided by church staff.

  • Keep giving it all as life goes on means that a member,

    continues to give to the church everything that passes into his hands, other than earned income.

    Earned income is a special situation. Federal law (15 USC 1673) limits garnishment to 25% of disposable earnings, at least for ordinary debts. Even the strongest debts have a limit -- 60% of disposable earnings. And these are strong debts -- debts for child support payable by a single man with no other dependents! The ordinary creditor must therefore hope that the amount of child support which is actually ordered to be paid will be less than 25% of disposable earnings.

    This is a recognition of the power which The Evil One has over everyone except The Mahatmalama himself -- people won't work if they can't keep at least some of the fruits of each part of their labor.

    Mahatmalamalist tithing of earned income is therefore:

    • set at 60% of disposable earnings, and

    • reduced -- dollar for dollar -- by whatever garnishments (ordinary, child support, or otherwise) as are actually imposed.

  • Give it all at death means that the member carries out an estate plan (will, living trust, etc.) which results in the church taking everything. Suitable legal forms will be provided by church staff.
